Tell Us About Yourself
I was born and raised in Panama. After graduating from high school, I moved to the United States to continue my studies. I graduated in Computer Science from Miami Dade College. I then went to Florida International University and majored in Finance. I worked in different managerial and operational Management positions before joining Kaplan.
What is your particular area of expertise?
Healthcare Career Guidance, International Medical Schools, Contract and Negotiation Management.
Tell Us About Your Experience in Medical Education
How long have you worked for Kaplan Test Prep and what drew you to your current role?
I have been with Kaplan Medical for 14 years and have held various positions that each brought along a new set of challenges that expanded my knowledge and love for the company. I first began as Kaplan Medical Center Director, in which I had the opportunity to work with foreign doctors from all over the world who were preparing for the US medical boards. Then I worked as Area Medical Director where I had a chance to start working directly with Medical Schools Academic Administrations both in the US and internationally before becoming Senior Medical Programs & Institutional Consultant.
In my current role as International Medical Director of Institutional Partnerships for Latin America, I work directly with administrations at academic institutions to provide curriculum and academic support with excellent e-learning programs in healthcare to promote the delivery of high quality, cost-effective care. Having these opportunities has allowed me to work with experts in different fields such as academics, management, operations, technology, products, and educational programs. This has given me the ability to broaden my knowledge on a variety of different roles and platforms.
What innovations at Kaplan are you most excited about?
I am most excited for our i-Human Patients by Kaplan platform, which is a wonderful educational tool that has an immeasurable value. It provides quality content with technological innovation, providing a solution for academic institutions in a safe environment while helping students become better clinicians and healthcare professionals.
The COVID-19 pandemic has changed the world with schools shut all across the globe. As such, education has changed dramatically with the distinctive increase of e-learning. Overnight, our institutional partners had to transition from in-person classes, clinical rotations and on-site clinical practices, to an online structure. At Kaplan we had already been developing and managing online resources and solutions for several years.
In addition, I was extremely excited when I had the opportunity to focus on Latin America in my current role as International Director of Institutional Partnerships and to offer our array of e-learning programs to enhance medical education in the region as well.
